Part 2

While Detective Ferguson sized up Peter Torrance, a non descript white Buick
drove through a suburban neighborhood less than seven miles away.  The man
behind the wheel wore black leather driving gloves.  A set of Sunblocker
glasses sat perched atop his balding head.  He pulled into the driveway of a
modest two-bedroom brick home and opened the garage door with his remote
control.

The garage door closed immediately behind him.  He picked up the black
medical bag on the passenger seat and stepped out of the car, being careful
to lock it with the key.  His black leather shoes were freshly shined and
unscathed as he wiped them carefully on the mat and opened the mudroom door
with his key.

He had just finished a twelve-hour shift at the hospital and was ready for a
weekend of not being on call.  He glanced around the kitchen.  Nothing was
out of sort.  Every thing was in its place just as he had left it.  His
kitchen was clean and spotless.  His mother would be proud- her son the
doctor, her son the clean doctor.  Dr. Blacklung is home.

His bladder ached from his day at the hospital.  The building had plenty of
facilities but none were as clean as his.  His mother taught him well.  Don't
sit where some else has sat or shat.  He zipped his gray wool trousers and
washed his hands in the sink with the antibacterial soap he had taken from
the hospital.  It was better than the store brands.  He lathered his hands as
if he were preparing for surgery and dried them carefully on one of the
spotless guest towels.  Before leaving, he checked him self in the mirror.  A
loose hair dangled beside his cheek and he carefully combed it back over the
top of his head.  He wasn't fooling anyone.  A comb over is a comb over but
he refused to accept the fact he was going bald at 40.  He put his black
gloves back on and retrieved his medical bag.

The door leading to the basement was situated between the front foyer and the
living room.  It was closed and locked, just as he had left it this morning.
He opened it with his key, flicked the light switch on and made his way down
stairs.

He stopped in front of the stage and admired his handy work.  A thick
Plexiglas cage sat secured to the stage floor.  Inside the cage lay a naked
woman on a stainless steel floor, her face concealed by her long blonde hair.
He sat down in front of the stage and watched her closely for signs of
breathing.  Her chest expanded and she appeared to be breathing normally.
Perhaps she was sleeping or maybe she was ignoring him.  Either way, he had
left 12 hours ago and he could see the pack of Pall Malls was not quite
finished.  The ashtray beside her was not quite full.  Disappointed, he shook
his head.

He stood up and quietly walked over to the stage's electronics panel.  From
here he could change the angle or direction of any of the four video cameras
surrounding the cage.  From here he could wake up his sleeping beauty and get
her attention.  He pushed a single red button on the panel with his gloved
finger.  A mild but painful electric shock scurried across the metal floor
attacking the woman.  She let go an agonizing scream and jumped to her feet.

"Animal!" she screamed.  "Animal!"

Dr. Blacklung sneered.  "Good evening Mrs. Torrance.  I just came down to
check your progress."

"You're insane!" cried Linda.  "Why are you doing this to me?"

"In time you'll find out", said the doctor.  "In the meantime, if you want
your dinner, I'd suggest you finish that pack of Pall Malls."  He pushed the
eject buttons on all four cameras and removed their tapes and replaced them
with fresh ones.  "I'm going up stairs to watch these.  I want to see what
you've done while I was away, but don't worry.  I'll be back."

"You bastard!" shouted Linda.
